Unfortunately, if your father was thinning, so will you be, and you can pass it along to your son, as that's how it works with genetics.

There are some things you can do to help:

Make sure you eat enough high quality proteins in your diet.

It goes to your hair and nails.

If you don't have softened water, see if you can get it; the minerals in your water can make your hair break off prematurely.

Use the gentlest shampoo you can find, for your hair type,

and always use a wash-through conditioner, leaving it on

for three to five minutes.

Use a very wide toothed comb or brush to brush your hair

out, always starting at the bottom and moving up. Don't do

much to it while it's drying, as tying it back tight will make it break and stretch. Dry it naturally, not with a dryer, as much as possible.

Find a style you love, and go for it. Your hair loss is probably not as noticable as you think it is.

There's a few shampoos out there as well that help. My hair is thinning a little on top and I'm only 24. My hair was already thin, so to me it's really noticeable. Mine is due to stress and always pulling my hair back. lol Have you ever tried flax seed? It's really good with strengthening hair and making it thicker. You can get the oil or the pill or even the loose stuff itself. Take a tablespoon a day for the oil. You'll see a difference within a week or two. Nioxcin is a good shampoo for that as well, I just can't afford to spend the money on it. I personally did see results using that.

I thought the whole thing about the dad carrying the thinning hair gene was a myth or not completely accurate? Doesn't mom carry the gene? I mean, either way it doesn't hurt to look at the family tree and see who has thin hair.
