Does dying your hair make it thinner?

My mom is finally letting me darken my hair. I hate the normal color cause it is a really dark blonde but not quite dirty blonde yet. I already have really thin hair so would dye make it even thinner or make it look even thinner?

Thanks:)

Have you considered hair extensions? There are some really good ones out there, get a professional to help. You can also consider clip ins to give your hair a break, let it grow and get in better condition. If used properly hair extensions can give your hair a chance to grow out, while enjoying the look of thicker, longer hair. when coloring your hair, you have to be careful with the color, if you go too dark, it might look thinner. Good luck!

I've dyed my hair since I was 13...and I'm now 21...and I've severely killed my hair...but it's NEVER thinned out.

Hey you have hair just like me!

if anything i think hair dye would make it break easily...causing the overall thickness to reduce. make sure to use a strangthing shampoo and moisturizing conditioner!

Uhm in the future it may cause you to lose some of your hair but thats only if you do it wayy to much.. what i do know is that when u dye your hair lots, it gives lots of body etc. i can send u a pic later of what my hair looks like not straightened... its amazing it givess it alot of body..

I wish, I have really thick hair and have been dying and highlighting it for years and it is not any thinner than when I started.

It will damage your hair (your hair may be more breakable and dry) so you want to use really good conditioner and shampoo for color treated hair to try to keep it as healthy as possible.

Hair dye is not good. Don't try to tell that to a stylist. By your question I see your a minor, a child. By the context of your question, e.g. beginning to change color I dare say you're around 11 or 12, maybe 13.

Either way your body is still in a developing stage. You do not want to put any unnecessary chemicals on your hair roots. Right now those hair roots can be damaged much more quickly than if you were an adult. Many girls would kill for the color of hair God gave you. So why on earth would you want to change it? Be grateful and thankful you have hair.

Have your parents take you to a hospital ware of cancer patients and see their "lack of" hair because they have a disease that has taken the hair away and left them only scalp to show. Here you are with a beautiful head of hair wanting to put chemicals that could cause cancer or damage the root of your hair. When the roots are damaged, you get BALD. Is that what you want? I think not. Have you seen a woman with balding spots? Not a pretty sight. Once you destroy the hair roots the follicles don't grow back. Once gone, they are gone, adios, sayonara, goodbye!

So enjoy your beautiful hair. Style it and wear it proudly.
