My boyfriend is trying to grow his hair out,,but it is thin and fine and breaks off constantly,?

the hair dresser suggested a deep conditioning treatment but his hair also gets oily very quickly, so we are cautious to do it. Anyone have any ideas? BTW anything to help it grow more quickly out of this awkward stage would help as well.

im a guy and im also growing my hair out. What i do is i take prenatal vitamins and also one a day women's multivitamins. I go to my hairdresser every 10 to 12 weeks to get a trim. Hope this helps.

The *oil* helps prevent breakage. I have thin fine hair. I don't *dare* allow my hair to get "dry".

Determine if the hair is breaking off or if it's "shedding". If the individual strands have roots on them, it's shedding. Unless the person is a candidate for Guiness Records, there will be some shedding daily, lots more is warmer weather.

If there are strands that don't have roots on them, that's breakage and a sign that the hair could use more caring care. Any trimming should be done with absolutely sharp scissors (blunt scissors can *cause* splitting). Over-use of silicone conditioners can make hair brittle. Over-stripping of natural oil can make hair brittle. Hard water can leave mineral deposits with similar result. Weird case scenario: there can be enough salt in perspiration for salt crystals to form and damage the hair (salt isn't dirty, but it can be harmful to hair).

Treat hair gently. Use non-silicone conditioners if conditioners are needed (i.e. even olive oil can be useful). Eat a healthy diet. Be careful to not over-dose with self-administered vitamins. Some over-doses can cause hair loss.

that sounds really neat that he has self cutting hair.

I would think it is a diet thing, does he have week fingernails as well ?

the hair dresser is right,

also try a deep conditioning.

L'Oreal has a few that work really well,

the one that comes with the hair color they make is really great, then they sell one that is almost as good, cant remember the exact name, but it says on the back how deep it conditions and it was almost to the end of the scale.

was this the one I was thinking of ?

I would see what I could get at a local store so I could read the back.
