yes, there are thinning shears and a razor that can be used. razor does a better job, but the hairstylist needs to be strained to use them. thinning shores work well too and any hairstylist should be able to do this for you. i have my hair thinned out every time i go in to get my hair done. they thin out alot out because i have extremely thick hair. you can tell them just how thin you want your hair. i hope this helps.

they have thinning shears and a tool thats kinda like a razor and they cut the hair with it long ways ( with the razor that is) to thin it out. i have to have that done to my hair as well and so does my husband if he keeps his hair long. if these tools are used and you get a short over long layered style with it it will really thin out your hair and make it easier to deal with and style :)
