Getting hair thinned... good idea?

I have really thick long (mid back) hair. LOTS of it. It always tangles, gets everywhere, looks wild... i want to keep my hair long but is it a good idea to thin it? What do hair stylists do when they thin your hair? do they pull it out or something... no that sounds really stupid but seriously how do they do it? Is it bad for your hair to thin it? what if they make it TOO thin...???

i have thick hair too. i have mines thinned and now its not that thick. it will not be too thin. they only thin it a little.they use thinning shears to thin it.

DON'T DO IT!!!! IT'S A HORRIBLE IDEA, TRUST ME I HAD BEAUTIFUL THICK LONG HAIR WITH VOLUME AND EVERYTHING AND THIS WEIRDO STYLIST THINNED IT OUT IN NOV, AND I'M STILL TRYING TO GROW IT BACK HOW IT WAS. IT LOOKS BAD LIKE YOU HAVE NO HAIR AND SCRAGALLY AND GROSS. PLEASE DON'T DO IT TAKE MY ADVICE I'M PAYING THE PRICE. OBV IT'S YOUR CHOICE THOUGH BEST OF LUCK WITH DECIDING. OH AND THEY DO IT BY "TEXTURIZING" YOUR HAIR LIKE THEY'LL LAYER IT IN SUCH A WAY WITH SPECIAL SCISSORS. IT'S NOT COOL AT ALL!

OMFG!!! i cant believe you would even ask something like this! Everyone wants thick hair like yours but you actually want othin it??!! It is very bad for your hair and DO NOT DO IT. I mean maybe a few strands, but it will still hurt your hair.
